CPaaS.io

Research into platform for advanced smart city services

OdinS is participating in the H2020 project, called CpaaS.io, between Europe and Japan that aims to develop an open cloud-based platform that can form the basis for a smart city data infrastructure. The platform will make it possible to connect Internet of Things, Cloud Computing and Big Data technologies. This will allow cities and private companies to offer new applications and services for the public and businesses.

The platform thus constitutes the basis of a digitalized open society, making the city more attractive for its citizens and new companies, and also helping the city in the rationalization and improvement of its own public processes and services.

The European coordinator Stephan Haller, from the Bern University of Applied Sciences, presented the benefits of this platform: “It contributes strongly to urban innovation and reinforces the attractiveness and competitiveness of the city. By providing open and secure data that makes it possible to attract new services and businesses. And the platform helps the individual citizen to gain control over their data and to define who is allowed to use what data and how.”

Practical implementation will be tested in cities that already have experience with open and secure data. In Europe these are Amsterdam, Murcia and Zurich, and in Japan Sapporo, Tokyo and Yokosuka.

The European partners in the two and a half year project are AGT, NEC, Odin Solutions, The Things Network and the University of Surrey. Japanese partners include ACCESS Co., Microsoft Japan, Ubiquitous Computing Technology Corporation and the University of Tokyo. The CPaaS.io project is funded by the European Commission (grant agreement no. 723076) and the NICT of Japan (management number 18302).
